It is entirely possible that by year's end, he'll have had great matches in WWE, AEW and NJPW in the same calendar year. I was enjoying the Shield reunion, but can completely get why he wanted out and he ultimately hasn't been near his peak there since 2016. His NJPW run has been more good than bad, but I'm not sure how it would look minus the G1. He definitely excelled with the right opponents (Shingo, Ishii), but wasn't as consistent as I'd like. No clue what his AEW run will look like-I thought the Janela match was just ok and I can't say I have high hopes for the Omega match. I suspect that he'll have to pick AEW or New Japan before year's end as the two promotions clearly don't expect to play especially nice with each other.

Here's a guy who made a big splash with some really great matches after stepping out of AEW but I can't help but notice that a lot of his year will be defined by the matches he didn't have. Missing out on the first Omega match, the Barnett match, the Juice No DQ rematch. That staph elbow infection did a lot to stunt his momentum but so far, he's looked great on AEW TV and he's clearly the stronger half of the feud with Omega.
