THE WRESTLER. Maybe a #1 contender if his career didn't prematurely end, and even still it warrants discussion. Just a hell of an ass-kicker with a killer presence in the ring. The best in NJPW at that "NEVER championship" style of just trying to slap the shit out of your opponent. I miss him.

His career ending in the first half of 2017 could keep him out of the top 10, but his body of work from 2013-2017 alone gives him a legitimate shot at it. Master of the sprint but as proved by his matches with Okada and Tanahashi, could thrive in a main event setting as well. Excellent striker, great mat technician, and all around badass, Shibata could do no wrong.

He had some fucking terrible matches with Ishii, let's not kid ourselves that it was flawless. And only two years with 100+ matches.
