Deserves a thread as he's the kind of guy that this poll was made for. If you are an earnest and eager reviewer of footage he certainly has the matches as 3-2-1 is readily and easily available for free and he's nearly always the star of the shows even if they have other guys they use that are clearly good. I don't think he's had a bad match this year and he's a guy who regularly injects character into his matches in a way that makes him stand out. His matches with Navarro and Thatcher will get the most notice, but his matches with Sonico, Mike Santiago, The Bird, Artemis Spencer, B-Boy and others have all been very good or better.

I had never heard of the guy before the Navarro match but this is one of the top 10 matches of the year so hell yeah he's gonna' make my list.

Funny enough, the only Dan match I haven't loved this year is the Navarro match but that's more on me never being big on Navarro. That being said, Dan is one of the safest bets in wrestling for a great match. The seamless transition he made in to a sneering heel is ridiculously impressive

3-2-1 puts a lot of stuff up on youtube, so I went through and watched it all and . . . yeah Daniel Makabe is gonna be pretty high on my list. He is just excellent at laying matches out and having them flow from one spot/segment to the next. The Navarro match is fantastic and a style that I love, but if you don't like the matwork stuff check out the Jake Parnell match or, weirdly the Thatcher match, which does a great job of playing off their match from last year. A great wrestler and somebody to keep an eye on for 2019 as he is starting to get booked outside of Seattle. PROMOTION NAME | NAME OF SHOW | DATE OF SHOW | MATCH | NOTES | MATCH STIPULATION | RATING | LINK | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 1/26/2018 | Daniel Makabe vs. B-Boy | Fantastic match with great nearfalls, great storytelling and a great pace. |
| 4 1/4 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=C91T0xdmAeY | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 4/20/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Cat Power | I don't think Cat Power is particularly good so the fact that this simple, well built match is as good as it is is a testament to Makabe. |
| 3 1/2 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAG_87aP-B4 | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 5/4/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. The Bird | GREAT match built around The Bird flippin off Daniel Makabe |
| 4 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah7tz-QwRF8 | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 6/15/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Bambi Hall | Told a fun story |
| 3 1/2 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnfGBNBAZxU | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 7/13/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Timothy Thatcher | I watched this back to back with their match from last year and it is amazing how well they play off of each other. In the first match they start out with lots of matwork, feeling each other out - exactly how you think their styles would work. Rather than a retread, they come out of the gate here with the big strikes, and Thatcher actually works from underneath because he gets caught off guard by Makabe. Not having seen enough of Makabe, I can't tell if this is also playing off of a change in his character in this time or not, but regardless it still works just in the match alone. Great stuff. |
| 4 1/2 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtlN9MAWhFQ | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 7/27/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Cat Power | The rematch. It's better? |
| 3 1/2 | youtu.be/agS1XaRbNxc | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 8/10/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Cole Crazy |
|
| 3 1/2 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W2uBDTm_Ak | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 8/24/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Negro Navarro | Fantastic Navarro exhibition match with hold going to hold going to hold. When Makabe kicked out of a pin and Navarro rolled with it to a stretch I wept. How is there such beauty in this hell of a world? |
| 4 1/2 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDaWO3G1oPM | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 9/7/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Kaden Talbain |

| 3 3/4 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=Flp0d93Jdus | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 10/5/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Pitfall Jones | Some good stuff, some sloppy stuff, some "invisible whip being used" stuff. |
| 3 1/2 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXcu8N5IeFQ | 3-2-1 Battle! | Seattle | 10/19/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Bambi Hall | Well built match |
| 3 3/4 | www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWK_lggs3BQ | SUP | Nashville | 11/4/18 | Daniel Makabe vs. Jake Parnell | GREAT transitions back and forth as this match keeps getting bigger and bigger. Great stuff. |

I've nearly made it through Makabe's catalog from the year, and I think I might be crazy. I think the Alex Zayne match might just be better than the Navarro, Thatcher, and Spencer matches that everyone (rightly) has been raving about all year. The leg work in that match is standard with much of the rest of his title defenses but it feels like there is an air of desperation that makes it all the more necessary. That and the 630 off the second rope after Makabe took out the turnbuckle made me jump out of my chair. Makabe is just so damn smooth, the Cloverleaf suplex is my favourite move in wrestling this month, and I wish the dude the world in 2019 cause he will blow up if the opportunities are there.

The Zayne match is his best match this year. I'd go Zayne, Spencer, B-Boy, Thatcher, Talbain in that order. Honestly I thought he had a better match with The Bird and probably several others than Navarro and I liked the Navarro match.
Makabe is a number one contender. There are arguments against him but nothing that really pertains to his work and the only really good one is that it's hard to comp a guy with maybe 18-24 matches available to guys with dozens and dozens.
