I really enjoyed Cena's 2017.
His match with AJ at the Rumble was incredible, he had fun TV matches with BRAUN and Nakamura and I enjoyed the match with Roman more than most.
Only downside for me was that the Corbin match left a lot to be desired in my opinion.

John Cena is the greatest professional wrestler of all time. Do not go to my Twitter and @ me about this. It's a fact.
2017 has been an incredible year for a guy who isn't around all the time but he doesn't need to be.
He's #4 on my list right now.
Incredible matches with AJ and Roman. Great stuff with Nakamura and Bray on TV and he's still delivering on the road doing live events when he can.
John Cena could phone it in and rest on his laurels because he's John Cena.
But he doesn't and he won't.
I don't even know if we see him again in 2017. He's advertised for Survivor Series but none of the TVs before or after. So, he may be done for the year.
What a year for John Cena. May be the best of his career.

His high end stuff is pretty solid. I'm high on the Nakamura match and I liked the Roman match a lot. I don't see what people loved about the Styles match though, that's not even a **** match to me (and I loved their feud last year). Plus the Corbin and Rusev matches were both really bad. He's a borderline guy, leaning no since he will miss so much time this year.

Lack of volume definitely hurts his chances, but I could see him sneaking in. A.J. match was a MOTYC for me and was very good in the Elimination Chamber match, triple-threat with Bray and A.J., Nakamura, and Reigns. He was certainly involved in some stinkers (flag match at Battleground) but his peak performances bolstered mostly by the A.J. match could earn him a spot.

It's not even close to the best year in his career. That said there is some great stuff this year. As a spectacle spotfest the AJ match was incredible live, though I thought the Summerslam match was a better version of the same match and it's not my favorite kind of wrestling. I thought the Reigns match was absolutely incredible on first watch, and possibly the best singles main roster match of the year. He has tv matches with people like Nakamura, Jason Jordan and others that were really good. Still he had several ppv matches this year that were utterly skippable, and I don't think he has the meat this year that he had in his best years. Still a great wrestler though, and an easy top 100 guy

The novelty of Create-a-Wrestler Moveset Cena has long worn off and I'm not sure how he works epics now he's burned through his super-duper finisher, but the Styles rematch was the year's best main roster 2.9-fest, his performance in the Reigns match is going to be better than Roman's when he returns to whichever member of the next Bella generation spends the most time on the gym, and in between he generally performed with the commitment to the biz you'd expect from someone who proposed marriage in the ring. Mid-list.
