Since his LU stuff doesn't count he won't be as high this time, but he's still got some quality work in NJPW and Evolve. Good title match with Hiromu and one of the better runs in the BOSJ. Also consistently an awesome hot tag in every Taguchi Japan match.

I sort of used this idea with Callihan already but I might have to start calling Ricochet something like Mr. Surprising, because he keeps managing to put together matches that on paper read like solid, enjoyable bouts that turn into something really compelling and fleshed-out in reality. I first noticed it with the Keith Lee match in EVOLVE which, though I've watched precious little from the other festivities, is almost certainly going to end up being my favorite match of the weekend. Then I saw the Lio Rush match in PWG that worked on a meta level that so many matches try to achieve and completely fail at. Add to that a genuinely enjoyable Bucks match at the tail end of the G1 and a couple other smaller matches throughout the year and you've got a pattern of Ricochet sneaking around and putting on lots of little eyebrow-raisers. Depending on what I think of the rest of his NJPW stuff, what I've repeatedly been told is a bunch of actually good stuff from WCPW, and this sort-of-surprising-sort-of-not BOLA run and PWG title shot, he could carve out a comfortable spot on the lower end of my list.

I've actually enjoyed him more this year than in most previous years. His work in NJPW was generally more consistent, and the Funky Futures team was a real breath of fresh air for the division. The PWG stuff I've seen was more consistently solid (usually I find it hit or miss) as well. I haven't seen the WCPW stuff but I do love that EVOLVE match.

Definitely agreed that his work with Taguchi has been really fun. Ricochet's one of my favorites and will probably end up pretty high on my list. He's a really reliable guy. And as annoying as he can get when commenting on other matches featuring flippy shit, he really is still the king of that style in my eyes.
