Honestly would rather watch him in New Japan than any of the New Japan top dogs fwiw that worth. The Naito match early in the year is probably my second fav NJPW match of the year in fact, though I've seen virtually none of the G1. Really have enjoyed his presence on the U.S indie scene, both as the guy in the drawing matches for Glory Pro that always deliver, the Sabre Jr. match from AAW that Sam doesn't like (I did), and even on random shows like when I saw him and Odinson have a really good match on a disaster of a show in Alabama.

A step behind Takahashi, but probably in the second tier of awesome NJPW guys from this year along with Okada and Omega. And he very well could be above those other two guys. I haven't loved a lot of his US indie stuff, but I'll vote him Promoter of the Year to make up for that.
The Okada/Elgin G1 match is not innovative or unique at all, but is one of the most pure fun NJPW main event style matches of the year.

Elgin has quietly pieced together a pretty good 2017. Though his time in NJPW has been limited, he had great matches with Okada, Naito, and Omega (2x), a good if unspectacular run in the G1, and arguably gave Cody his best match of the year. Haven't seen a ton of his U.S. indie stuff but his Evolve 81 match with Sabre was very good. Pretty solid top 20-30 contender.
