She's currently at #13 in my list. One of those who doesn't have the quantity of work but makes it matter each time she's in there. That Brooklyn match with Ember was practically a religious experience that had folks in my section hugging and high fiving strangers when it ended.
Best female worker in WWE this year, honestly one of the best overall wrestlers in the world.
Asuka doesn't lose.

The Ember Moon match is sincerely one of the most underrated matches of the year. It's probably in my top 10 at this point. The LWS with Nikki is also a lower end MOTYC and top tier HOTYC. Let's hope next year doesn't fuck this up.

Love her work with Nikki and Ruby. The Ember matches aren't as good as other think (In my opinion though Brooklyn was better of the two). Want to see who her first feud in New York is with before I determine her spot on my list.

Asuka has a good chance of being #1 on my list. I always say the same thing about her, but every match of her NXT run has been engrossing in different ways. For me, a big aspect of a good wrestling match is the rhythm, but Asuka completely turns this on its head. Her matches are jarring and chaotic, but in an organic way that keeps me interested and invested instead of getting tired or bored of the choppiness of the action.
I've got the Asuka vs. Nikki Cross LWS match at 4 3/4*. I was blown away by that match. The April Ember Moon match I have at 3 3/4* - the lowest rated Asuka match this year. I should probably watch it again, though, as I was probably being too tough on it. I really liked the finish of that match, with Asuka finally looking vulnerable, and loved how it played into Asuka playing possum towards the beginning of the August rematch.

I'm not as high on the second Ember match as most, but Asuka has had a very good year. The Nikki Cross match is easily my favorite women's match this year. Volume isn't exactly on her side when it comes to matches that made tape, but she'll make my list without question.

I think she's the best singles worker in NXT history, so the question is whether there's sufficient variety in her limited body of work to justify the top ten slot she'd get on average performance quality. Currently I'd say no, since when presented with a non-standard situation like the San Antonio 4-way she could have done more to make the match into something more than mildly diverting: she was clearly the best worker but didn't anything as memorable as Peyton and Billie doing Peyton and Billie things. But top 20 probably and top 30 for sure. Of course this could all change completely after her main roster debut.

She's had three more televised matches than Brock this year, so her limited appearances have certainly enhanced her aura. Each match does feel special, the Cross match and the Brooklyn Moon match stick out the most. I'm not worried about her on Raw since she's had good to great chemistry with Bayley, Nia, Mickie and Emma and fresh matches with Banks and Bliss to look forward to.

Thought the Emma debut matches were good. Pretty much following the early NXT formula right off the bat to introduce her to a new audience and give her a couple of wins against an established character.
Really excited for her chase of the women's championship.

Feels like a good place to have the "star" debate right? I mean, it is nice to have her first match on the big stage be a good one (I went ***1/2 on it) but compare the pops of the PPV crowd to the Raw crowd. Yeesh. I don't buy that they had to make her Goldberg 2.0, but the way the match was structured with a long beatdown segment is baffling. Feels like that part is being a bit overshadowed by people who wanted a 5 second squash and also the even worse Balor/Kane booking.

She will do quite well for me. Her big matches have all been excellent this year minus the Chicago triple threat which I found good, but not great. She always has entertaining squashes. The two Emma matches to start her up on the main roster were both very good. The booking flaws come more with the terrible depth of the division. She can't squash all six RAW women's wrestlers in two months. It would have been smarter to let her crush some local talent for a bit before feeding her a division "undercarder." She destroys most of the women in WWE on presence & character in the ring. She even has a couple of WWE MOTYCs on her belt in the Ember match at Brooklyn & the Cross LWS.

Asuka is basically Brock without the flaws of Brock. I don't really think of her as a number one contender, and I didn't think the booking of the Emma matches was very smart especially with Emma being let go days later, but she's got the special vibe of a big time asskicker and she backs up that vibe bell to bell. If she has even one great match on the main roster between now and the end of the year I wouldn't really think it was crazy to have her as the top ranked WWE person when you consider the fact that her peak matches and performances have been so good and varied.
