Probably the most compelling NXT champion since Kevin Owens and someone whose in my Top 20 with five televised matches. Now that we're seemingly past the Gargano feud (for now), it will be interesting to see how high he can rise and who he ends up facing before the end of the year. Just an amazing turnaround given his injuries and past misuse by other promotions.

The feud with Gargano may have gone completely off the rails since Brooklyn, but Ciampa still has some good stuff this year. The first 2 Gargano matches were great, and the title change match with Black was too. I just miss when this feud was still on path to be something great and not whatever the hell it turned in to now.

Ciampa is definitely a case where booking has overshadowed his in-ring work. And while I perfectly understand why some might be sick of his act I'd be hard-pressed to find a match of his that wasn't at least pretty good. The first two Gargano matches are literally two of the greatest WWE matches ever and even the third match was well on its way before the ending. And while the Dream match had a bit too many nearfalls it still had that big match, high stakes atmosphere we don't seem to get too often anymore. And as caught up as he is in his own shit he still has that violent and aggressive edge which make babyface comebacks all the more meaningful. Top 30 contender.

I've never cared less about someone who has had such a great peak year. The fact is, he has 3 of my top 15 matches on the year and so I'm going to have him on the list. Probably bottom half simply because there is so little there to build a resume around even if what he's presented has been elite level stuff. Right now at #65, but when I look at it closer he'll probably be somewhere in the fifties.
