His tag team with EVIL was probably my favorite heavyweight tag team in NJPW in a very long while and definitely the best native duo in years. I enjoyed his G1 performance, but I think it got overrated in some quarters. The tag match with the Bucks and his G1 match with Ibushi are the two top matches I've seen this year. Might sneak into the top half of my list, but with my NJPW watching likely to diminish over the next few months, I'd expect him to land in the third quarter of my list.

I skip most of the New Japan tag division stuff since I don't really care for most of the teams in the HW division, but sanada has a decent chance to make my list based being in the good G1 block this year.

SANADA's really fun to watch but I think he's taken a step back this year even though he's probably been booked better. I think he's one of NJPW's most consistent tag workers and has a good amount of solid-to-good singles matches to his name, but I don't think he's really WOWed me much this year. Still probably a top 50 contender based on volume/consistency.

Considering Buddy Murphy was MIA for pretty much the entirety of 2017, SANADA is the wrestler whose standing improves the most for my list this year. While he was always thrived in tag team settings, his singles work always left something to be desired. It was clear he was athletic and could hold his own against the more elite NJPW talent, but he never seemed to live up to the potential most pegged him for. That all changed this year as SANADA has gone from "holding his own" to legitimately matching guys like Okada, Sabre, Ibushi, and Omega. The Okada match in particular felt like his coming-out party as it had one of the most dramatic second acts in a match this year. He also had one of the better NJ Cup runs and he managed to stand out in an incredibly deep B Block during the G1. Add in his strong tag work with EVIL, and you have a bonafide top 50 pick.
