For me, Shingo has been the MVP of BoSJ this year. His tag stuff has mostly been solid, but his singles work has been on a much higher level. Right now he has the 2nd and 3rd best matches of the year for me against Sho and Dragon Lee, and a host of other good matches against the likes of Marty Scurll and Titan. Have him sitting in 6th place right now and with matches against Gresham, Ishimori, and likely a finals match against ELP or Ospreay coming up I could see him in first place at the half way mark If Shingo doesn't end up in the BITW conversation by the end of the year I'll..... well I'll complain online, but yeah. He's really good.

He has always been a guy who, when I watched his matches, I loved what he did. The problem was always my indifference to Dragon Gate and the fact that in a good year, I'd watch maybe 10 matches. His BOSJ performance was tremendous and his match with Will is my current MOTY (though I would've had Shingo win). With him and Will both getting G1 slots, they both have ample opportunities to really skyrocket up my list and potentially put themselves well out of reach of others. Shingo's got a weaker slate of opponents, but his matches with Naito and Ishii will at the very least have great potential.

The thing that makes Shingo such a great candidate this year is the variety in tags and singles. The Junior tag matches with BUSHI never disappointed and he was the star in every outing. He also had a strong BOSJ framed by MOTYC's against SHO and Ospreay. Unless he completely falls apart during the G1 and the rest of the year, he seems like a pretty easy top 10 pick. There's no better combination of power, speed, and explosiveness.
