Ishii is usually a guy who has a great year and people acknowledge that he's great, but he's still usually absent from most "best of the year" conversations. I don't think that's the case anymore because he pretty much grabbed everyone by the collar and said "Watch me!". Man oh man has Ishii been fantastic. Great sprint wrestler and arguably an even better main event style worker. While his bullmoose and strong style matches are always fun, he's even better when he's working as a resilient babyface or underdog rather than partaking in back-and-forth forearm exchanges. His trilogy with Omega rivaled Omega's trilogy with Okada. Excellent run in the G1, New Japan Cup, AND U.S. Heavyweight Title tourney. From Naito, to Zack Sabre Jr, to Rampage Brown, a Tomohiro Ishii match will rarely disappoint. As of right now, he's my number 3 and could very well push himself to at least number 2.

Ishii's in that top 10 mix for me for sure, even with the handicap of having to tag with Yano for the first few months of the year. My favourite wrestler from New Japan this year; MVP in the 3 tournament he was entered into, just a staggering amount of great matches from him again this year. This is like 4-5 years he's been consistently awesome.
I'm still annoyed that Ishii/Riddle match from Rev-Pro wasn't allowed onto NJ World. still need to get around to viewing that.

As someone that never was a big fan of Ishii, turned around on him this year. Maybe it's fatigue for seeing him for years now but I thought he was great in the G1. His matches with Nagata and Yoshi Hashi were great and he was the MVP of the G1 USA shows.
