It's been a rather interesting year for the ACE. He's well behind Okada, Omega, Ishii, and Naito and didn't have the best G1 run, but I think he's acquitted himself rather well considering his age and arm injury. A great trilogy with Naito, very good matches with Sabre, and awesome G1 showings against Ishii and Ibushi are enough to earn him a spot on my list. Even if he's well past his prime, Tanahashi finds a way to deliver in a big match setting.

Expectations may be too high, but other than a couple of matches, I was bored of Tana's output this year. Probably in the bottom half of my top 100.

After seeing his match with Ibushi at Power Struggle, it's clear that Tanahashi is still an incredible big match worker in this day and age.

Between Dominion, the G1, and the various big shows at the back half of the year, I'm pretty sure I described half a dozen Tanahashi matches as "uncomfortable" or "hard to watch" in 2017, if not more. Dude is rapidly breaking down before our eyes, both physically and mentally if that new haircut is anything to go by. Real shame to see considering he was a big part of my introduction to NJPW a decade ago. Still, even if various parts of his body are only hanging on by a thread, the dude's able to string together enough quality wrestling to get a match ranked in my top 25 matches of the year against his oldest rival remaining in the company. Even if he's in constant visible pain I find myself cheering the old bastard on, if only so that he finishes his matches sooner and goes to take an ice bath. Currently a borderline case for me.
