Place your bets folks, although I guess given recent announcements, it's not some sort of big rebrand/shutdown angle.

It's just some deal to get some buzz and also explain away why they can't afford to piggyback off Survivor Series weekend to run any November shows. I think they're back in December. And we're probably headed back to the pre-FloSlam days of running every couple of months unless WWE or an investor comes in and helps.

Actually I think that turned out pretty well.

Actually I think that turned out pretty well. Realized I can edit posts and almost changed "well" to "BAD". But I'm a moral and just figure. I suppose kicking off an FIP invasion angle isn't all bad since those dudes probably aren't going to be getting a ton of work now that the Flo well is dry. Still, think it was important for every wrestler in the group to make an impact and it was only 2 out of 3. EVOLVE right now can only do wrong in my eyes until they figure out distribution. Putting the WWN title, a worthless title more than ever, on Keith Lee as soon as the product reached its lowest viewership is frustrating. Every show until they figure that out will feel like filler. EVOLVE is not a well put together promotion. Gabe has leveraged the pipeline to WWE to make the promotion more enticing than it should. Sucks that the "premier" indie in the country is not creatively inspired, does not feel like it does enough for talent, and is difficult to be seen.

Maybe I am only okay with a ho-hum invasion angle because the alternative could've been much worse.
I do think it's a lot easier to look at indie booking (or all booking really) in hindsight, and EVOLVE is an interesting case. Creating a new title just for Riddle seemed logical at the time, but I think it sort of killed the impact of his win a bit. I think Keith Lee might be in the same boat. Like, it's awesome that he has the title now, but why didn't we kick off this title reign in May? It's like Gabe was waiting for every guy to peak, then waited a few months and put the title on them. It's not the fault of Riddle too, but the EVOLVE title has felt more interesting of the two. Maybe it's because ZSJ has actually been given some stuff to do.
I'll keep watching of course, the talent is too good and the matches are usually great. But sometimes EVOLVE does feel like it just can't stop underachieving for what it could be. It should be the biggest indie in the country, and it's being lapped by Wrestlecircus.

I think Riddle wrestled one FIP/Style Battle weekend? The booking of Keith has been baaaaaddddd. I guess he's at least more likely to pop up on the next FIP show...whenever that is.

That's the thing, I think that the WWN title could've worked if they actually used it as it was advertised to be. You put Riddle on every Style Battle, FIP, and EVOLVE show and have him defend the title a ton. Make him the true fighting champion. Helps him look a lot more vulnerable too. I think they overestimated Riddle's loyalty to them. He was already sort of the biggest star on the indies when he got the title, and he wasn't gonna cut down on bookings and wait for Gabe to send him a list of 30 blackout dates.

Just to reiterate, this isn't looking back in hindsight. Most people I talked to were HIGHLY skeptical Riddle would pop up on even one weekend for the other promotions.

You'd think some of Gabe's Scrooge McDuck Floslam vault could have gone towards making it worth his while but I guess that money had to go to the lasers at Mercury Rising.
