Seems weird to say because we're only 3 weeks in to 2018, but he might already be a lock for my list assuming he doesn't get signed or injured. So far he's had 2 very good matches in Evolve, including an early MOTY contender against Zack Sabre Jr. He also still hasn't made any Progress appearances, which will add some more volume, and also has a potential best match of Mania weekend in a tag match with Tim Thatcher against Daisuke Sekimoto and Munenori Sawa

Just heading into 16 carat weekend I have Walter a smidge above Roman, but with Walter due to face Jonah Rock, Matt Riddle and Bad Bones (with a potential for another match on night 3) in the next week he's gonna pull away fast.
He has two of progress' best matches of the year so far against Mark Davis and Timothy Thatcher, one of Evolve's best matches of the year against ZSJ and the ringkampf tags just keep on delivering.

His mania weekend stuff has been about as expected so far. Lawlor match was fun and the Ringkampf tag aginst Seki and Sawa was tremendous. Him and Sekimoto's chemistry is truly special. He's been by far the most interesting thing in PROGRESS this year and I have both the Thatcher Match and EVOLVE tag in low tier MOTY contention.

Running away with my #1 spot, to the point where it looks like he'll be nearly impossible to catch and we're not yet at the halfway point. Forever classic with Thatcher, brilliant matches with fellow top 5 contenders like Ilja and Zack but also less celebrated guys like Mark Davis and Wild Boar. Good tag stuff to supplement it and, while his formula is well-known and often utilized, he has other matches to show his variety. Between volume and consistency, WALTER is probably the only wrestler having a truly great year.

Super interested in how WALTER's year will go from here on out. We went from WALTER, the wrestler who doesn't want to leave his home, to working all the indies in the UK and the US. That's opened up a lot of tremendous match-ups on paper but removes the focus that working solely in wXw could do. Where he could have programs and build something between tags and singles work. That is an under-discussed point for WALTER.
As he has branched out he is fully on board with working a certain style of touring match. This goes back in a way to a lot of discussion around Sami Callihan's 2011 which was great but based a lot around a certain formula. That isn't bad, it certainly changes expectations. It is how WALTER mixes up the formula against his varying opponents. The PCO match, in my opinion, is a special match that doesn't work without the aura of WALTER. The Wild Boar match is super good which isn't a good intro to WALTER but plays well with the dynamic of Wild Boar being this thicc boy against the THICCEST BOY. With him getting more out there he might start getting "exposed" where it might just mean people notice quirks in his work that aren't bulletproof.
Definitely a top contender.

For me, no way is he getting caught now for #1, it's not even a contest when I look at my spreadsheet and he's already comfortably in front of the chasing pack with BOLA (Ringkampf vs Ilja and Shingo, plus Vs thatcher in the tournament), wXw World Tag, a Wembley main event with Tyler Bate plus whatever he's got going on in OTT and Evolve still to come these last 4 months of the year. Last night I finally got around to the Jordan Devlin match and good lord what an incredible match to pay off the Import Killer title reign from Devlin.
The moment the #1 spot on my list stopped being a competition is when Zack's G1 didn't blow me away, I felt like he needed to be one of the MVPs of that tournament to really put in a strong challenge for that top spot.
There's every chance by next year I might of fallen out of love with Walter and feel like he's over exposed and on top of too many promotions, and the matches all built around his chops is gonna get tiresome. But for this year, I'm still loving every match I see of him.

He's almost undoubtedly in my top 5 with a decent shot at #1. He's built up a great resume in a variety of places and I give him credit for his whole thing not growing stale as he's become a bigger star.

Probably the best champion in the game today. His title defenses in PROGRESS and OTT have been spectacular and I haven't even seen his stuff in PWG yet. I loved his matches with Bate, Devlin and Ospreay among others and his Ringkampf stuff has been very fun as well. And he helped resurrect PCO, so how can he not be super high on anyone's list?

Walter will be my number 1 this year. He's finished top 3 every month and has been at the top of my standings since May, minus 2 days during the G1 where sabre passed him by a couple of points. since then Walter has expanded his lead to the point where sabre would now need 6 five star matches to pass him. Just a wonderful year in all regards for him and I hope to see him finish in the top 5 minimum on the over all list

Sabre is really the only person who rivals WALTER on sheer volume and even then WALTER has higher peaks. It's ridiculous when your floor is literally "pretty good". Very legitimate shot at number 1.
