Started the year with a nearly great extreme rules match with Cole and has been putting up very good to great matches ever since. His title reign was hampered by playing second fiddle to the Gargano/Ciampa feud and that certainly diminishes his place in the lineage. But, the title win against Almas and loss to Ciampa were both great matches and I imagine if he come back before year's end, we'll get even more great stuff. Right now, he's in my top 40. How much he has left this year will tell the tale of where his ranking lands.

If it turns into a lengthy injury that means there's no more high profile matches for him this year, then I could see him missing my top 100 completely through a lack of volume. I've enjoyed his big matches this year against Cole, Almas, Sullivan (great besides the botched finish) and Ciampa that all delivered a different kind of performance from him, but there's hardly anything beyond that. That Almas match really doesn't get the credit it should but Takeover NOLA was brimming with quality matches.

His match with Almas at NOLA might be the most underrated this year and is a borderline top 10 candidate for MOTY. His TV matches and defense against Lars were also mostly enjoyable. But one tremendous match, 3-5 pretty good matches, and what could possibly be an extended layoff might see him miss the cut just like he did on my ballot last year.
