A guy I'm really hyped on right now after seeing him wrestle Matt Cross last night at C*4's final show of the year. His shine mostly comes from the work he does on the Ontario Indies, with the main places I've seen him this year being Alpha-1 and C*4. The Monster Mafia tag team with Ethan Page isn't my favourite stuff but Alexander comes across well regardless. I'm anticipating the Durst Iron Man Match in Alpha-1 in a couple weeks time as his singles stuff has been really good there this year. He essentially plays the gatekeeper role in both promotions and usually gets the top American Indy stars that come through which helps him from a positioning standpoint. His biggest strength is his pacing, with his power/control segments really coming off well. He is a bit spotty at times and often takes unnecessary risks but when he gets it right his work is pretty spectacular. Again, though, the Canadian curse bites him as he hasn't had major spotlight outside of Canada and considering that only a few promotions he works make tape it is difficult to truly classify his spot in the Top 100. He's firmly there for me right now in the 60-70 range with a couple more ALPHA-1 matches I still need to catch up on. PROMOTION | SHOW | SHOW DATE | MATCH | NOTES | RATING | C*4 | Hard Target | 2018/11/16 | Josh Alexander vs Matt Cross | Should be up within the next week or so on Powerbomb. Really, really great match that was helped by a wildly hot crowd. The crescendo of the match hits perfectly and Cross' part should not be understated. While there isn't any traditional limb work to really get hyped up about, the psychology in regards to little moments in the match pay-off incredibly well. If you need to see one match from the promotion this year, this is it. (Maybe giving it the Live Bump). | 4 1/2 | ALPHA-1 | Another Long Halloween | 2018/10/21 | Josh Alexander vs DJZ | Power vs speed in a relatively traditional dynamic that comes off really well. Alexander does try some more outlandish things in this match but they end up working so it's not really all that detrimental to the match. | 4 1/4 | C*4 | They Live | 2018/05/25 | Kobe Durst (c) vs Eli Everfly vs Josh Alexander vs Matt Angel | A 4-way clusterfuck for the title where Josh looks initially out of place as the much bigger man but deals a lot of punishment throughout. Also on the receiving end of a completely unnecessary bump that luckily ended up being much safer than it looked. The chemistry with him and Kobe was also on display here, albeit in abbreviated segments. | 4 | C*4 | Fighting Back | 2018/08/24 | Josh Alexander vs Jeff Cobb | Two big dudes just really beating the shit out of each other. Getting to work with Cobb helped to highlight the nuances in Alexander's repertoire as the two are undoubtedly very similar. Really plays the role of gatekeeper in the story of this match as well. | 3 3/4 | ALPHA-1 | Wrestlers Gone Wild | 2018/01/21 | Josh Alexander and Kobe Durst vs Eddie Kingston and Chris Dickinson | Love to see two guys that are traditionally paired opposite each other working together. Especially against guys like Kingston and Dickinson who help to highlight their strengths. Kobe probably comes off the better of the two in this match but man do the Alexander and Kingston moments get me hyped. | 4 | PROGRESS | Chapter 72 | 2018/06/24 | British Strong Style vs Josh Alexander and the Besties | Alexander's only match from the UK tour he went on in the Summer that I've seen make tape. If you know of others please let me know. Really functions as the star of this match even if BSS aren't taking it entirely seriously. Him getting ticked off at the usual antics from Seven made me happy and hopeful that he could come back. | 3 1/2 | ALPHA-1 | Maximum Effort | 2018/03/11 | Josh Alexander vs Myron Reed | Maybe a slightly worse version of the DJZ match. Though this happened first so I guess it was the better version of this? Regardless, the power/speed dynamic in full effect here and Reed's ability complements Alexander so well. | 3 1/2
