My blurb was originally going to focus on his tag work in PROGRESS and OTT which produced some excellent matches with two separate partners. But, then I saw the match with A Kid and saw how much that match depended on Will to get where it was going. I know he receives great praise from many people, but I still think that he's a bit underrated or perhaps under appreciated with regard to how he structures and executes his matches. His Mania offerings don't look anywhere as good as his 2018 run, but between Cobb and Bandido, he should have two stellar singles performances. Biggest question in my mind for this year is if he's in the G1 and how he does against the "big boys."

When it comes to sheer number of good to great matches, Ospreay has to be in the conversation for number 1. He's still not a perfect wrestler. He's still a tad too histrionic with his facials and playing to the crowd to create "drama" and he's still a bit too go-go-go in the finishing stretch (though he's hardly the only offender). But the continued growth he started last year as a seller as well as his ability to gel with almost any opponent combined with his insane amount of great matches really makes his case for best in the world this year. From Ibushi, to A-Kid, to Cobb, to Taguchi, to Archer, to EVIL, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone with that many great matches with so many different opponents.

In terms of volume of great matches, there's no denying Ospreay. The G1 run really did a lot to cement him in my eyes especially the Ibushi and Tanahashi matches. That's not even to mention all the other great matches he's had across basically EVERY major tournament New Japan has held this year. Then there's all his matches outside of New Japan. He's great but I still find very little reason to invest in him. Promos are just there, no real discernible character. He's just a match machine and that's fun and all but I would like a little more.
